Commercial Storefront Door Hardware Reference Guide

Below are common components of commercial storefront door hardware, each accompanied by a visual example.

Door Closer

A hydraulic or spring‑loaded device mounted at the top of the door, controlling closing speed and preventing slamming.

  • Surface mounted closer
  • Concealed closer

Pivot Hinges

Common in aluminum storefront doors—either center‑hung or offset pivots. These allow smooth operation without traditional side hinges.

Panic Bar / Exit Device

A horizontal bar enabling emergency egress. Pushing the bar unlatches the door—mandatory for code‑compliant exits.

Cylinder Lock / Mortise Lock

A keyed locking mechanism (mortise or rim) integrated into the lock stile, offering secure access control.

Push/Pull Hardware

Installed on non‑latching doors to facilitate easy opening and protect door surfaces.

Threshold & Sweep

Threshold seals the bottom of the frame, while the sweep (usually rubber/brush) attaches to the door’s bottom to block drafts and debris.

Door Frame & Glass Stop

Includes top rail, bottom rail, hinge stile, lock stile, and the glass stops securing glazed panels within the aluminum frame.

“Doug H. from Beck Glass and a helper came to repair my neighbour's glass. To do this, they needed access to my patio, which was arranged in advance. Friendly, professional, courteous. While there, they diagnosed a problem with my slider, fixed it on the spot. Classy company”
