Spider glass fittings installed for a commercial space in Vancouver, BC

Spider Fittings

Secure, Sleek Connections for Frameless Glass Systems

Spider fittings are precision-engineered stainless steel components used to connect multiple glass panels at specific node points, providing both structural stability and a clean, modern aesthetic. These fittings are designed to allow multi-point connections, which help distribute structural loads evenly across the entire glass system, enhancing safety and durability. Commonly used in fin-supported facades or wall-mounted glass walls, spider fittings are a key element in creating expansive, frameless glass installations that require both strength and architectural elegance.

Tie Rods / Struts

High-Tension Support Elements for Structural Stability and Sleek Design

Tie rods, also known as struts, are tensioned support elements—often made of stainless steel—that anchor into the building structure to support cantilevered canopy glass. Designed for both strength and flexibility, they typically feature swivel joints that allow for precise angle adjustments and help distribute structural loads evenly. These components play a crucial role in maintaining the stability and integrity of overhead glass systems while contributing to a clean, minimalist architectural appearance.

Aluminum or steel subframes may be added beneath multiple glass panels to evenly distribute loads. These are often painted or anodized to match the surrounding structure.
Types of Canopy Glass

1

Tempered (Toughened) Glass

Heat-treated to increase strength ~4–5× stronger than regular glass.

Break Pattern: Shatters into small blunt pieces (less risk of injury).

Use Case: Often used in combination with lamination for overhead canopies.

2

Laminated Glass

Two or more glass layers bonded with an interlayer (typically PVB or SGP).

Break Pattern: Cracks but remains held together by the interlayer.

3

Tempered Laminated Glass

Combines both tempering and lamination, offering maximum safety and strength.

Most building codes require this for overhead glass like canopies, especially in public/commercial areas.

4

Heat-Strengthened Laminated Glass

Less intense heat treatment than full tempering; bonded with interlayer.

Often used where thermal stress resistance is needed, but full tempering isn’t required.
